The promised rain did pass by, late evening yesterday we had a short but heavy thunderstorm with some rain. There was an extremely loud bang at some point, and this morning the traffic lights in front of the hotel didn’t work anymore; might be related... It was a little bit cooler this morning, but only a little, and it didn’t last. The bonus for today was: extra humidity... We started the day early again, after a good nasi lemak for breakfast, and then headed for a small local road on the east side of the Pahang river rather than following the main road to Jerantut.

Cycling for hours along this beautiful kampung road |
This was a whole morning of sublime cycling! Such a beautiful surroundings, quiet and peaceful. We went through kampungs, patches of jungle, some plantations, while from time to time spotting the river on our left. We also saw some hornbills again today, always nice - and of course, kingfishers. By noon we came back to the main road towards Jerantut, and after a good local lunch we continued on that road for another 27km or so. This was still nice riding, but a bit busier and bigger road, and it had become pretty hot again by then. Nevertheless, at 2pm we arrived in Jerantut and found ourselves a nice hotel (Wau Hotel), had our shower, and chilled in the aircon room for a while. There’s not that much to say about Jerantut as such, I expected a nice little town but it’s pretty boring... Our dinner was great again however, some curry laksa and yong tau foo, good food as usual in Malaysia, and again accompanied with a cold beer and a spectacular colourful sunset. Bike touring is great...

We stopped for our morning coffee break on a side road, with heavy red clay mud that stuck to our tyres and our shoes. We needed quite a bit of time to remove it before we could continue... |
