Leaving Georgetown was a breeze, much easier than getting in. As we came from the ferry in Butterworth, we were already on the right side of the city, and so we did not have the same terrible traffic now. It had been raining the whole night however, and it still was raining slightly this morning. We loved it! A nice cool morning, and it continued to drizzle most of the morning. Really pleasant, honestly. The sun didn't come out the entire day, so it was another cool riding day, so enjoyable.

A moment of heavy rain well used for a sheltered break |

Nevertheless, the view during our break was incredible |
Besides that, the scenery was stunning today as well, probably the best we've had so far. Rice paddies, palm trees, mountains covered with shredded clouds, rivers, sea, ... For anyone ever planning to cycle this stretch: go via Kota Kuala Muda, pass under Sungai Petani and then via Merbok to Yan. Let google maps or another bike-friendly navigation app do the rest.

Rice paddies and misty mountains, the perfect combination, while riding on a dirt road |

Hairy tree! |
Once in Yan we were faced with the task of finding a place to stay again. We found some homestay's on the map, and a few chalets too. We decided to go for a chalet and while on our way, stumbled upon a homestay in Kampung Raga where we will be spending the next 2 nights. Because tomorrow, we'll be hiking Gunung Jerai!

Pantai Murni, near Yan. We could see Georgetown still from the pier (but not on this picture, this island is not Penang! 😀). |
