Some details of the bicycles we took. It must be said: we were totally happy with our choice. To add to that: we did more than 11.000km each, and all we had was:
- 5 punctures (of which Wim had 4)
- 1 broken chain
- 1 shifter cable that needed replacement
So as a guideline if you're looking for a good touring bike:
Travelmaster 2.6
A classic in the touring
bike world
Magura hydraulic brakes
We opted for hydraulic
brakes: easy maintenance and good brake power. Disc brakes are in my opinion
less desirable, as these can be more fragile, hard to repair or
replace if needed
Shimano Deore XT
And did 8000km before we started to feel the need to replace cassette and chain

KMC X10SL Gold chain

Top!
Brooks saddle B17
We selected the pre-aged version and did not regret it. No saddle
pain, from the beginning
Shimano hub dynamo
Mostly decided to use this, in order to have a USB charger on the
bike
Supernova USB plug
The USB hub, great gadget to charge phones, iPad or GPS on the way –
but ours broke down after only 3 weeks
Pletscher ESGE stand
One of those options of eternal discussion, but we were happy to have
one
AXA Defender frame lock
Indispensable!
